Copy of Nokia n8. How to distinguish Chinese Nokia n8 from the original. Did you have to repair your phone?

I want to say right away that my attitude towards Chinese phones is very skeptical. Well, I won’t buy a phone in which half of the declared functions do not work, and the other half works through... you know what! But as they say, this is not an acquired taste. I didn’t take this phone for myself, but since when I received the parcel, the customer was away, with her permission I had the opportunity to “play around” with it for a couple of days. So I decided to make a review, maybe it will be useful to someone. The device was purchased on eBay and cost a little over 50 dollars.

So let's get started.

The box, traditionally slightly wrinkled, has standard contents: the phone itself, headset, USB cable, charger, instructions in English without pictures.

We get the device. It looks very solid, the assembly is not bad, the body material is mostly metal, only the upper and lower parts are plastic (as, indeed, the original). There are Nokia logos on the front and back, although they were covered over.

The design almost completely replicates the original N8, there is even an inscription Made in Finland on the bottom end :) In general, in appearance it is a serious device. Also at the bottom end there is a standard Nokia charging socket.

On the right side there is a volume rocker, an unlock lever, and a camera activation button.

On the left side there is a USB connector, as well as slots for a memory card and the first SIM card

The socket for the second SIM card is located on the top end under a plug with the inscription HDMI. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top end.

We turn on the device, translate it into Russian, and we see that the Russian font is much larger than the English one, which does not look very aesthetically pleasing; most of the inscriptions simply do not fit in the menu.

Russification is tolerable, although I discovered one gem by clicking on the choice of sound modes on the desktop. So, among other, more or less understandable modes, one item was called SMUT.

Well, we need to check what kind of crap this is, we transfer it to this mode. The device immediately loses the network. It turns out that this is an autonomous mode “on an airplane”. I just had to look up how to turn it off. Go to the menu - settings - setting up work with two SIM cards, and switch the phone back to the appropriate mode.

The touchscreen is quite sensitive; you can do without a stylus, although in some cases, for example, when writing messages, it would be indispensable. Occasionally it happens that the presses do not work, but what can you want from a phone at this price with a resistive display.

Cameras. There are two of them, both 0.3 megapixels, I don’t think it’s worth posting photos from them, everything is clear, the quality is no good. The flash is of no use at all, it's just for show. The rear camera can work in webcam mode with a resolution of 160x120, which does not seem to change in any way, so I don’t see any practical use for this function. There was no desire to test the quality of video shooting, we can predict the result.

The volume of the speaker is very low; it will probably be impossible to hear anything in noisy conditions. The music speaker is also a C grade: a not very pleasant rattling sound, in which the mid frequencies predominate. True, the volume is decent. We connect the headphones, expecting another disappointment. But no, the situation here is much better. The sound quality is quite normal for a non-audio lover, you can listen to music. I suspect that by replacing the headphones with more expensive ones, it can be improved a little more.

It's time to check the possibility of installing Java applications. The dynamic memory size for Java is stated to be 2 MB. For the test, we chose the not-so-recent Opera Mini 4.2, Yandex maps, and the Angry Birds game, adapted to a resolution of 240x320. The cards refused to be installed (well, screw them, I didn’t bother to figure them out), Opera and Angry Birds installed without any problems.

I was able to access the Internet normally only through Opera; the built-in browser, in my opinion, is only suitable for visiting WAP sites and adapted PDA sites.

Well, in conclusion - about the battery. It is not removable. I did not find information about capacity in the technical specifications on the website. The phone arrived fully charged; by the end of the second day of use, the charging indicator “lost” by only two bars. According to reviews from another owner of this device, the battery lasts up to a week with not very intensive use (only calls). Fantastic result for a Chinese phone!

Summary: the device looks solid in appearance, has a metal body, and fits well in the hand. The Chinese know how to show off. Normal screen with 90 degree rotation function, Java support, good battery. Among the minuses are the low volume of the conversational speaker, the low quality of the music, some flaws in Russification, and the font is not very good. In general, if beauty and similarity to the original are more important to you than functionality, then this is probably a completely normal device, especially for such a price.

Then I finish my first review and take my leave. Happy shopping everyone!

Hello. Let me start by saying that for the future I would advise you to buy phones in normal specialized stores. But if you still decide to buy a Nokia N8 in an underground passage, on the street, or according to an advertisement, then be careful, because the risk of buying a Chinese fake instead of the original Nokia N8 is 90%.

Before buying, play with a real Nokia n8, hold it in your hands, see what the menu looks like, photo quality, and so on.

It will be better if, when purchasing, you take with you a friend who has the same phone, it will be easier to compare.

Here are some tips on how to distinguish the Chinese Nokia n8 from the original.

1. Pay attention to the weight of the phone. The original N8 with battery weighs 135 grams. The fake weighs much less, hold it in your hand and immediately feel it.

2. Chinese fakes have poor quality plastic. Try pressing with your finger in different parts of the body. If the plastic crunches, creaks, bends, then it's China. In fact, the original case material is metal (anodized aluminum), so no plastic.

3. Pay attention to the quality of the photos. Take a photo of the skinte on your laptop and see the quality of the images. The original has a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss plastic optics. A Chinese fake will most likely have a camera from 0.3 to 2 MP. When the fake camera is turned on, it flickers.

4. Pay attention to the sound, listen to several melodies. Usually Chinese fakes produce terrible sound. Distortion, wheezing, speaker tearing.

5. Games. A good way to spot a fake is to go into games. Almost all Chinese fakes have a game - Magic Sushi. The following games are installed on the original Nokia n8: NFS Shift, Golf 3d, Galaxy on fire.

6. Try to transfer some file via bluetooth to your friend. If it detects your phone in the form of various gibberish, such as MTK0342543 or something like that, then it’s China.

7. Play around with the menu. Please note that there are errors in the Russian language . The menu is usually crooked , ugly fonts.

8. You can check your phone by calling the Nokia hotline number

Tell the operator your IMEI number (15 digits). If this number is not in the database, then this is not a branded Nokia n8.

You can find out your IMEI by dialing *#06# on your phone or find a sticker on the box of your phone.

8. Pay attention to the inscription at the bottom of the phone. the original says Made in Finland. The fake one has Made By Finland. Although the Chinese have already corrected this point, just in case, pay attention.

9. The Chinese counterfeit has a small amount of memory (it usually says that the phone’s memory is 512 kb). Originally 16GB. Don't believe what it says on the lid, check it.

10. I completely forgot about the TV, antenna and 2 SIM cards. The original Nokia n8 should not have them.

11. Of course the price. The original costs about 14-16 thousand rubles. Chinese fakes sell for 2.5-4 thousand rubles.

12. The counterfeit charger plug is not the same as the Nokia one.

Do you know the difference between the original (Finnish) Nokia n8 and the Chinese counterfeit, write in the comments.

A great way to say thank you.

Be sure to buy phones with specialized large stores and communication shops. However, if you wanted to buy Nokia N8 in the market, in an underground passage, etc., then be extremely careful, approximately 90% is the risk of purchasing Chinese fake instead of the original.

If possible, hold it in your hands before purchasing. original phone, look at the photo quality, menu quality, etc.

The ideal option would be to take a friend with you who has one original phone and compare with the device offered to you.

Follow these points and you will be able to distinguish Nokia n8 from a Chinese fake:

1. Be sure to pay attention to the weight of the phone. The original Nokia N8 with battery should weigh 135 g. The weight of the fake is significantly less than the original.

2. Chinese clones are made of poor quality plastic. Try to press on the plastic, if it creaks, crunches or presses in, then it is a fake. The body of the original is made of metal (anodized aluminum), so there should be no smell of plastic here.

3. Monitor the quality of photos. Take a photo of something and put it on your laptop to look at. The real Nokia N8 has a 12 megapixel built-in camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The fake camera will be from 0.3 to 2 MP, and the fake camera will flicker when turned on.

4. Listen to songs to determine sound quality. Often, Chinese clones have terrible speaker quality: wheezing, straining speakers, sound distortion.

5. Games. Great way identify a fake- This is to play games on the phone. Almost all fakes have a game - Magic Sushi. The following games are installed on the original Nokia N8: NFS Shift, Golf 3d, Galaxy on fire.

6. Look at the device name when N8 transfers a file via bluetooth. If there is something like this inscription MTK0342543 or various incomprehensible symbols, then it is a fake.

7. Browse the menu. Be sure to check for spelling errors. Often the menu is crooked with an ugly font.

8. Check your phone by calling the Nokia hotline:
8-800-700-22-22
The operator will ask for your IMEI (15 digits). If such a number is not in the database, then your Nokia n8 is fake.
You can find out your IMEI by dialing *#06# in your phone; there should also be a sticker with this number on the box.

9. At the bottom of the phone there should be the inscription Made in Finland. The fake will have the inscription Made By Finland. Chinese counterfeits have already corrected this error, but it’s still worth paying attention to.

Wondering - how to flash chinese nokia n8 or, be aware that you have entered a slippery slope in the fight against Chinese products. Let's justify our idea. The fact is that if you have a certified Nokia n8 assembled in China, then this is one question - you are the happy owner of the original device and official firmware releases will probably suit you. But the trouble is that perhaps you are holding in your hands a Chinese fake that resembles the Nokia n8 only in appearance, but inside there is the essence of “hatzimot san”. Accordingly, in the vast majority of cases, flashing will end with a “black screen”. Because even at the stage of searching for firmware, you will be faced with the fact that it is not clear what firmware to download. You will have to understand on the basis of which processor this is all assembled and only then try to look for firmware for the equipment. So before it’s too late, come to your senses. If you are stubborn, read on to learn how to flash a Chinese Nokia n8.

Flashing Chinese Nokia n8 - what you need

Computer. USB cable for connecting your phone to a computer. JAF program with addon. Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. Next, search the Internet for the firmware you need. Remove any standard Nokia software from your computer if you have already installed it. Now we can describe the firmware process itself, although we warn you once again that with Chinese smartphones things often don’t end very well.

Instructions for flashing Chinese Nokia n8 firmware

Install the driver, then install the JAF program, then install the addon after it. For Windows 7, the “Start J.A.F.” file must be run in XP compatibility mode. On the smartphone itself, delete all resource, sys, system, and private directories from the memory card. On the PC, in the folder along the following path: “disk:\ %PROGRAMFILES% \Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-ZZZ” you drop the found firmware, only instead of “ZZZ” you need to substitute the smartphone identifier.

Then you run the “J.A.F.” program, it will display an error message, click “ok” (by the way, for example, you don’t need to do this). In the program, we activate the BB5 bookmark, there we uncheck the “CTR 308” item, check the boxes for “Manual Flash”, “Dead USB”, “Factory Set”, “Normal Mode” and at the very end “Use INI”. We are trying to find our smartphone in the drop-down list. We connect the phone to the cable and click “Flash”, agree with the question that pops up by clicking “ok”. We press the power button of the smartphone for a second and wait while JAF is engaged in the flashing process. Then, if the message “Done” appears and your Nokia smartphone turns on, then, most likely, everything was successfully flashed.
