"Borderless printing" is the printing of content from edge to edge of a physical sheet.
On most printers, by the way, this is basically impossible - at least 5 millimeters along the edges of the sheet cannot be used for printing due to the structure of the sheet transport mechanism.
If you are faced with the fact that your content extends beyond the boundaries of the sheet when printing, you need to do the following (for Word 2007, later versions have a different algorithm):
1. open Word with the problematic document
2. in the ribbon, go to the "Page Layout" tab
3. find the “Size” button, click on it, there may be Letter 21.59 cm x 27.97 cm, or kosher A4 21 cm x 29.7 cm, or something else. If you are printing on A4, make sure that it is A4, if not, put it on and try to print.
ATTENTION! Due to changes in the sheet size, text formatting may “float”! Especially if it is made, as usual, with spaces and extra lines.
Alternatively, you can try to avoid this if you do not change the size of the document sheet, but scale it using Word:
- leave the page size other than the output A4 unchanged
- go to the print dialog, for example, by pressing Ctrl+P
- in the print dialog at the bottom right, using the OK and Cancel buttons, in the “Scale” group, in the “by page size” drop-down list, select A4
- as a result, the document will be scaled, the format most likely will not float - but you need to check it anyway
4. If, when creating new documents, their default size is also not A4, it makes sense to set A4 to the default size, as follows:
- in any document, press Ctrl-F2 to go to preview mode
- in the preview ribbon, find the “Size” button, click on it
- in the menu that opens, click on “Other page sizes” at the very end, a dialogue will open
- select A4 in the top drop-down list "paper size"
- in the lower left corner there is a "default" button, click it, then click "Yes" in the dialog that appears
- now all new documents (based on the normal.dot template) will be created in A4 format
BUT! All this is not entirely correct, because... the vast majority do not have such problems, despite the selected document format, and all because the printer driver usually automatically scales everything larger than A4 down to a smaller size, so that problems like yours do not occur. It doesn't work for you, and you essentially assigned this function to PDF. Yes, if you follow the above recommendations, you (1) will be able to change the paper size of any document to A4, and (2) all future documents created on your PC will also be in A4 format. However, if someone receives a file with a different sheet format from someone - and this happens often, because... for everyone, everything usually scales itself, and no one bothers with it - you will again have problems when printing, and you will have to change the paper size of the document again.
What to do? Go to printer settings:
- in any document, press Ctrl+P to go to the print dialog
- at the top, to the right of the drop-down list in which the printer is selected, there is a “Properties” button, click on it
- the printer driver settings window will open
- here you are in free swimming, because... They are different for each printer, but for example, in this window I have the items “sheet size” (corresponds to the sheet size of the printed document) and “output sheet size” (set by the user). For example, if your document is in a format other than A4, you can set the output size to A4 and the printer driver will resize it. I have two features:
-- this setting is not remembered; in order for scaling to take place by default, you need to create a profile and save these settings there
-- !! Regardless of whether I turned on scaling or “forgot”, everything is still scaled to A4, such a smart printer :)

When we accept an order for photo printing, we always ask about the printing method - do you like it, “with margins” or “without margins”? We are talking about a way to crop photographs.
Let's explain in more detail:
The most common paper format for printing is 10x15 cm and has an aspect ratio of 2:3, and the format of photographs of most modern digital cameras is 3:4. Therefore, when we try to print a “digital” photograph on 10x15 paper, there are two options:
A) Place the photo on paper entirely, without cutting anything- but due to the mismatch of proportions we get “white fields” on two sides (most often on the short sides) - this is called "PRINT WITH FIELDS".
B) The picture is stretched so that fill the entire piece of photo paper, and what is not included on the photo paper is cut off in automatic mode - this is called "PRINT WITHOUT FIELDS".

When is it better to do “WITH FIELDS”?
When there are significant photo elements located close to the edge- most often heads or figures in group portraits. Or if you value every part of the photo, including the background. For example, for these photos it is definitely better to choose A - “print with margins”.
When is it better to make “NO FIELDS”?
When all the significant elements of the photo are at least a little removed from the edge, and the background can be sacrificed. For example, for these photos, option B would look better - “borderless printing”.

It often happens that the photo is cool and the frame has been purchased, but stretching it in automatic mode gives an unacceptable result, and you don’t want to “decorate” the frame with margins at all! Most often, the situation can be corrected by taking an “individual” approach to photography. For example, either by cropping the photo “manually”, or by “masking” the margins with designer modifications, as in the pictures below. WHAT should I do when ordering photographs??
If the format of your photographs is not set to an aspect ratio of 2:3, or you do not know what it is, then look through your frames intended for printing and put in a separate folder those where faces and figures are very close to the edge - then when ordering We will help you figure out how best to print these photos.
The picture format of most modern digital cameras is set to 3:4 by default. In this case, when “stretching the frame”, i.e. For borderless printing, cropping will occur on the long sides of the photo, and what is adjacent to the long sides will suffer.
Another option is that all the photos as a whole have a competent composition; at first glance, no one “sticks” to the edge. Then we print all the photos in borderless mode, without previewing. If you see on the finished prints that a significant part has been cut off somewhere, put these photos in a separate folder, and we will reprint them “with margins” (at the same cost per piece as for the general order).
All of the above is also valid for other standard photo paper formats: 10*15, 15*21, 21*30.
Many people are confused about what indents should be adjusted when printing on A4 paper so that the text is positioned beautifully and correctly when printed. At the same time, sometimes there is absolutely not enough time to familiarize yourself with the parameters in specialized literature or to make the process more comfortable on your own through trial and error.
It will not be very critical to set the parameters incorrectly in copies of documents, however, when printing a full-size image with the parameters, real problems can arise.
